The Mummy Marathon- August 1st, 2020!

Saturday, August 1st, 2020

Some pictures from the Mummy Marathon!! Marathon #160 for me! Check out the crazy steep hills with ropes, especially the Stephanie Hill!! The race finishes with a river crossing too. 😉😉

Soooo... Marathon #160 complete, 26.2 miles!!! The Mummy Marathon is the hardest marathon east of the Mississippi River!!!! Wow!!!  🙂🙂

First, I would like to apologize to everyone who ran the Mummy Half Marathon or Marathon and encountered the Stephanie Hill. 😂 I am sorry! So funny!! Ha ha ha. The race director, Dan Droskii, named a hill after me. HA!! The Stephanie Hill.. Yeah, so that was intense. It is a sharp downhill that drops you straight down at like a 90° angle! You have to hang onto a rope and swing down/crawl. WOW!! 😮

This course is extremely challenging... There are 3 river crossings with about 3 feet deep of water in some parts. The current was strong, and the river was filled with seaweed.. Yikes! Then, there's endless rocks, roots, technical parts, tree climbing, obstacle courses, switchbacks, hills, roads, dirt roads, gravel, and trails.. You get a little bit of everything! Oh, and MUD. So. Much. Mud!!! Wow! The most challenging part of the race would be the endless extremely steep hills though. These hills are so steep that you need a rope to climb up and down them. (Think of climbing straight up a cliff or climbing a rock wall.) Some of the hills you have to crawl down too. It is INSANE!! We were sweaty, soaking wet from the river, muddy, and dirty by the end. It was great. Over 4,000 feet of elevation gain too.

Although this race is challenging, it is so much fun, and you get the best race swag too- a towel, jacket, two shirts, a medal, and railroad spike. I highly recommend this race- challenging, best race swag, and awesome race director. Thank you, Dan, for putting on such a great race, especially during the pandemic. You rock!!!

I feel so accomplished. It was a great day with friends too. Jeane and Heather ran the half marathon. Mark and I ran the full marathon. Shout out to Heather who was pregnant and totally rocked the half marathon!!! THAT is extremely impressive. We are so proud of you, Heather!!!

Several runners behind us also dropped out of the race, so Mark and I finished last. HA! Because of that, we got rewarded with HUGE last place trophies. Thank you to the runners behind us who dropped out because the last place trophy is amazing. 🙂  I also won my age group! Yeah!!!! Last place and an age group win! Hilarious! Ha! Two trophies! Ha ha!! Pretty awesome!! Being last place can be awesome sometimes too. Check out the HUGE trophy. 😂🤩

This was a fantastic day!! Very proud of this accomplishment!!! 🙂🙂
I did a crazy mileage challenge in July too, so I am very proud right now. I ran, walked, hiked, and biked 945 MILES in July for 30 days! 970 MILES, if you include day #31 and the 25 miles on the exercise/stationary bike. Wow!! I am feeling good. 😮😮

Believe in yourself. You can do anything!! ❤❤
